All the World’s a Stage – Kickstarter Launch

DVS member Cheryl Eagan-Donovan’s new documentary feature film, All the World’s a Stage, has completed principal photography and is now in post-production. The Controversy Films team is working around the clock on the first cut of the film and they need your help to complete the film by year end. To reach this goal, they have just launched a new Kickstarter Campaign for Finishing Funds. Learn more here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/modtheatre/all-the-worlds-a-stage-finishing-funds
Cheryl says, “Thanks to your support, the footage looks absolutely amazing: fantastic locations and brilliant interviews. We are now putting together the story of Edward de Vere’s career and his leadership as the center of the Elizabethan theatre scene, as told by some of the most talented actors, directors, writers, and scholars in the world! We need to raise a total of $15,000 by December 12th to cover editing, music, graphics, audio mixing, and other post-production expenses”.
This is the story of Shakespeare, the man of the theatre, and his journey to becoming the most celebrated playwright in the English language. By incorporating the discovery of new documentary evidence, All the World’s a Stage will redefine Elizabethan England’s Golden Age of Theater, placing at its center the Seventeenth Earl of Oxford, known to his contemporaries as “Phoebus Apollo” for his benevolence and support of writers and composers.
To tell this story, they’ve filmed over the past two years at many locations in the U.K. including Oxford University, Cambridge University, the Middle Temple and Gray’s Inn, Dulwich College Archives, Stratford Upon Avon, The Charterhouse, Hatfield House, St. John’s Church and the site of Brooke House in Hackney, Fishers Folly in Bishopsgate, and in Shoreditch at the sites of The Theatre and The Curtain, the first two public theatres in London. In the U.S. they filmed at the Folger Shakespeare Library and the Blackfriars Playhouse.
They have also filmed a series of interviews with acclaimed actors, directors, playwrights, journalists and scholars. Included are segments with renowned Shakespearean actor Sir Derek Jacobi, actor and director Richard Clifford, Elizabeth Winkler, author of the controversial book Shakespeare Was a Woman and Other Heresies, and professor Roger Stritmatter, whose recent discovery of three Roman history books annotated by Edward de Vere will change Shakespeare studies forever. Other interviews include authors Kevin Gilvary, Earl Showerman, Sky Gilbert, and Rick Waugaman, poet Annie Pluto, playwright and actress Rosemary Loughlin, actor Costa Chard, archivist Calista Lucy, and De Vere Society trustee Mary Waugh. They have recorded performances of excerpts of the plays and poems by several award-winning actors including Sir Derek Jacobi, Sir Mark Rylance, Richard Clifford, Annabel Leventon, Samantha Bond, Rosemary Loughlin, and Costa Chard. These theatrical performances illustrate the story of De Vere as Shakespeare and his profound impact on the world of theatre.
The filmmaker invites you to join the team today and share this link with colleagues, friends, and family. She sends her sincere thanks to everyone who has helped to make this project possible. It’s time to tell the true story of the man who invented modern theatre.
