Oxford Matters – New Research at Home and Abroad
“The Curious Case of Troilus and Cressida“ Jack Shuttleworth will lead us through the intricacies of the printing of Troilus and Cressida, one of the least read and least performed Shakespeare plays.
“Shakespeare, statues and salvation” Rosemary Loughlin
An examination of artistic influences in The Merchant of Venice and Winter’s Tale. Rosemary delves into two of Shakespeare’s plays, expanding on her adventures described in her one woman play A Rose by Any Other Name. Relying on textual analysis in conjunction with Edward de Vere’s Italian travels, she explores how his exposure to great art climaxed in a trail of evidence as who Shakespeare was as well as a profound expression of the depths of his, and potentially our, incarnation.
“O brave new world! Walking statues and the banality of AI” Charles Beauclerk will continue the examination of Winter’s Tale and The Tempest from a different angle and gives his view of AI and other illusory advances in civilization.
“Uncovering clues hidden in The Tempest” Kerstin Teglof Berg takes a closer look at Edward De Vere’s travels in Italy 1575-76, from a partly new perspective against the historical and political backdrop of the time.
There will be readings and interludes by our actor friends, Derek Jacobi and Richard Clifford.
