Hedingham Castle Launches Exclusive Historic Tours
Experience 900 years of history as guests of the De Vere Family
England, UK – Hedingham Castle, one of England’s most historic strongholds, is delighted to announce an exclusive opportunity for discerning travelers to immerse themselves in British history on this brand new 5-night trip.
The estate, which was founded by the de Veres in the 12th century after the land was gifted by William the Conqueror, remains the private home of one of the country’s oldest noble families. Current custodians, Jason and Demetra Lindsay, reside with their family in the Georgian House which stands just a stone’s throw away from the 900-year-old Norman Keep itself. Jason is a direct descendant of the de Veres, also known as the Earls of Oxford.
For the very first time, Jason and Demetra are inviting just twelve guests into their family home, to stay with them in the Georgian House for five nights, in this very special trip from 7th to 12 September 2025.
A Journey Through Time
Guests will reside in the luxurious Georgian House and enjoy a full itinerary that delves into the rich heritage of the de Vere lineage. Accompanied by dedicated and incredibly knowledgeable Blue Badge guides throughout the week, the group will be taken to a wide variety of historic sites associated with the de Veres, including Audley End House, St Edmundsbury Cathedral and King’s College Cambridge. There will also be visits to picturesque villages and market towns with de Vere links, to allow guests to soak up the quintessential English charm, as well as participation in classic traditions such as afternoon tea and falconry.
In the evenings, guests will be hosted by Jason & Demetra at exquisitely catered dinners, the finale of which will take place on the last night with a very special ‘Owls by Candlelight’ experience in the Banqueting Hall of the Keep, followed by a sumptuous 4-course gala dinner to celebrate the end of what promises to be an unforgettable trip.
An Invitation to History Connoisseurs
This bespoke tour is tailored for those with a passion for British history and culture. Limited to just twelve guests, the de Vere Tour is an exclusive and personalised journey into England’s long heritage and storied past. Participants will have the unique privilege of getting to know the Lindsays during evening events, offering unprecedented personal insights into the castle’s legacy.
Guests will also have the incredible opportunity to stay in the castle during their trip – the Royal Chamber bedroom is located at the top of the Keep and is the only modern bedroom within a Norman building in the country. Designed and installed in 2023 by Jason and Demetra themselves, this one-of-a-kind accommodation is a glimpse into how nobility may have lived inside the castle centuries ago, although now equipped with modern comforts for guests’ enjoyment. Those on the De Vere Tour may opt to stay in the Royal Chamber for one night of the trip to experience this very special piece of living history for themselves.

Throughout the week, guests will enjoy exceptional dining curated by private chef Eliza Linguard, who crafts every meal on the Hedingham estate using fresh, seasonal ingredients.
On three special evenings, guests will dine with Jason & Demetra, savouring expertly paired wines and beautifully presented courses in a variety of exclusive settings within the private family home.
Beyond the estate, experiences include a private dinner with the owners at the historic Layer Marney Tower dating from 16th century, an elegant Afternoon Tea in Cambridge, and a remarkable evening at a top local restaurant.

An All-inclusive Trip of a Lifetime
All meals, drinks (including alcohol), excursions and experiences are included (apart from one self choice lunch during a local town trip) within the price: 5 nights at £7,795 per person, based on two sharing. The option to stay in the Royal Chamber for a night is an optional extra, available at £495 per night. Flights and transfers are not included.
